Bushells Tea has been a part of Australian life for over 125 years. Generations of Aussies have grown up with Bushells, and we're proud to have been there every step of the way.
Now, we'd like to take you on a journey back to where it all began.
It started in 1883, when Alfred Bushell opened the doors to the first Bushell's shop in Queensland.
The Tea Shop was an instant success with tea drinkers from far and wide, who recognised Alfred’s ability to select the finest quality leaves.
By 1899, Alfred's sons, Philip and Walter, had joined the expanded business and Bushell and Co moved into George St, Sydney. And by that same year, Alfred 'The Tea Man' Bushell, was supplying tea to all corners of Australia.
Is it as good as Bushells?
Australians have always liked their tea a certain way. Whether we have it with milk or sugar or neither, we have always loved the taste of a truly full-flavoured cuppa. How we drink it today has changed a bit, but the quality cuppa has stayed true to the smooth, full-bodied taste perfected by Alfred Bushell over 125 years ago.
We may not sit in the 'formal room' anymore, the saucer's may have gone astray and dunking a chocolate biscuit seems perfectly natural, but the one thing you can always count on, is Bushells knows the taste you love. We carefully select our tea leaves from among the great tea growing regions of the world and expertly blend them so you can enjoy the same quality cuppa year after year, cup after cup.
At Bushells, we still consistently measure our tea against the exacting standards that Alfred developed when he began building the Bushells name, because we believe the tea ritual has a special place in Australian culture.
The cuppa that connects
Australia has been through a lot in the last 125 years. Through two world wars, droughts and floods, bush-fires and cyclones, recessions and booms, we have raised our families, looked out for our mates and kept our sense of humour. And whenever we have needed the reviving comfort of a steaming hot cuppa, Bushells tea has been there.
Bushells is also the major national sponsor of the 'Driver Reviver' road safety program, supporting the volunteers (SES, Lions, Fire Fighters and many other community groups) who give up their own time to serve a refreshing cuppa to more than one million Australian motorists, every year. Through past initiatives including Bushells Community Cash program, we have also helped hundreds of local community groups, like schools, sporting clubs, nursing homes, scout troops and many others across the country, by providing large cash grants.
Hang on a sec.
The simplest things in life are often the most special. Like getting together and connecting with family and friends over a cup of Bushells tea.
No wonder, Australia's great conversations all start the same way... "Hang on a sec. I'll put the kettle on". Because when the Bushells is flowing, so's the conversation.
Well, after all that, it's time for a cuppa. We hope you enjoy many more special tea drinking moments with us.
